Amazingly, it’s now been a year since Amway UK operations were suddenly and dramatically altered due to a dispute with the UK Department of Trade and Industry. Sales of all Business Support Materials, sponsoring, and all meetings were suspended. Only product sales were allowed.
Unbelievably, despite the DTI vs Amway court hearings finishing 5 months ago, Amway Business Owners in the UK and Ireland are still in limbo, with their still being no public announcement of the judge’s decision. Whether this means he simply hasn’t yet made a decision, or just that it’s been made in private and some settlement is being negotiated, I have no idea. Either way, the result is the same, we are in the dark as to what is going on.
ABO’s are still able to earn an income through retailing, but there’s little doubt that the inability to expand their business through finding other ABOs will have had many entrepreneurs looking elsewhere for opportunities. I personally believe that the United Kindom and Republic of Ireland markets are sleeping giants of the Amway world. There is a huge population with very little market penetration by Amway, even at it’s peak. With the right moves by Amway (many of which have already been undertaken) and the right approaches by ABO leadership, it’s a market that can truly explode in the next decade. I for one intend to be a part of it.
DEMO, a UK ABO, has a great update and overview of reactions to the events of the past year in the forums.
