It was less than a decade ago that cosmetic’s direct selling company was the largest and most successful direct selling company in the world, an honour now owned by Amway. This week comes the shocking news that Avon is closing down in Australia and New Zealand.
Direct selling is having significant challenges with rapid changes in technology and having to compete against the likes of Amazon and EBay, and this has been reflected in Amway’s own sales downturns the past 4 years. Something that may have turned around.
Amway Australia seems to be still having some success, with 10 new Platinums and Founders Platinums recognized last month, and recent new Diamonds Patrick and Joyce Mahakkapong and Hemant and Smitha Sahela.
Artistry, Amway’s premium cosmetic brand, continues to rank globally as one of the top 10 of all premium cosmetics brands.
It’s sad to see Avon’s struggles, but I’m sure the nearly 24,000 Avon reps in Australia may represent an opportunity for Amway?
What do you think?
Excuse the French … had some personal and professional challenges the last few years so haven’t prioritised maintaining this site. Back to it now, and there were over 600 unapproved (and unreplied to) comments …. :/
My apologies, I’m responding to each of you as I can, and promise to be better this year 🙂
Amway has reported a slight decrease in sales for 2017, hitting $8.3 billion, a 2% decrease on 2016 sales, and 25% down on the 2013 high of $11.8 billion.
A global increase of 3% in the second half of 2017 however, led by China and the US, has Amway confident that 2018 will see Amway rebounding to sales increases.
Amway China remains the largest market, accounting for over a third of revenue.
Spokane newspaper, The Spokesman-Review, has reported that Amway Founders Crown Ron Puryear, founder of World Wide Dream Builders (WWDB), has died.
Ron & Georgia Lee Puryear joined Amway in 1971 when Ron was working as a bookkeeper and Georgia Lee as a waitress. Within six months they were making enough that Georgía Lee could quit her job. Ron was able to do the same in 1974.
They eventually established WWDB, aka World Wide Group, one of the most successful Amway organisations in the world. He is survived by his wife Georgia Lee Puryear and son Jim Jr and their Amway network of thousands of Platinum and above Amway business owners around the world.
